When I was a little girl, I always loved to watch and learn. No matter how things appeared on the surface, I realized that there was beauty in everything. There are many people who can’t seem to see below the surface of people, nature, events, but I believe it is important in life to try to do this every day. This is what I strive to show in my art. If we take time to stop and think, to feel and see, we not only get below the surface but we also learn to appreciate the imperfections in life. In fact, at times, those imperfections are what make life perfect.
I’m a self-taught artist. What I mean by that is that I did not have lessons. I learned from my mom, family and friends, the Internet, TV, and books. I’ve experimented with all types of mediums. From pencil, pen and ink, to watercolor, oils and acrylics, I’ve tried them all. I’ve painted on canvas, signs, wood, rocks, and even cardboard. I’ve used everything from plastic containers cut into shapes to floor tiles and old tools. Art has given me the great freedom to explore. I appreciate all types of art, but create realistic works more often than not. Most of my art is based on the mood I’m feeling on a particular day. I must admit though, there are times when I feel the flow of the painting taking on a more expressive color or energetic composition and when that happens I just go with the flow. Art, I have learned, is boundless. There are no rules. And sometimes, it’s best to just hang on for the ride, never give up, and never let go. Take a look around. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to share your thoughts. I hope you enjoy! ~ Rita “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”
